Time to dig into

                        One Day at a Time

The Five Days of Action is a week designed to raise awareness and inspire adults to take action to protect children from sexual abuse.

We know this year will look different and that's okay. Do what you can and meet the organizations, members, and families you serve where they are - encourage them to take it One Day at a Time.

The below schedule is a guide - feel free to use all the resources available or just use a few. Do it during October 26-30, or pick others days or weeks that work best for you.

MONDAY:

Introduce your audience to Five Days of Action if you haven't already. Be honest and transparent with them. Acknowledge the ever-changing environment and give a nod to all they have on their plate.

TUESDAY:

We know the way parents and caregivers protect kids may look different in the current environment as they are adapting to new scenarios. Kids may be spending more time online or in front of a screen, parents may be working from home, having financial stressors, or have had to arrange different childcare options. Share the digital safety resources and sample activity checklist.

WEDNESDAY:

What have you seen that looks different in your organization or community when it comes to protecting kids? It's important to remind your community to have open communication about the different stressors, especially with their kids. Having honest, on-going conversations is a great protection from child sexual abuse. Let your audience know to continue to check-in with their kids to see how they are feeling and pay attention to what they say. But remember,  silence is okay, too. Allow them to have the space they need to open up. Share the Family Code of Conduct Worksheet and Safe Adult Worksheets.

THURSDAY:

We know it may be difficult to keep up with what services are open during this time, but it's important to know how to respond if you need help or support and to provide resources to your community. What services do you offer to the community? Have you partnered with any other local organizations? Fill out the Local Resource Sheet Template with the appropriate resources in your area and share it with your network. We have some examples of the type of resources to provide - what else can you provide? I.e. Resources for food banks, housing, childcare?

FRIDAY:

Wrap-up the Five Days of Action and encourage your audience to continue to use the resources from the week. Want to provide more in-depth child protection training? The Protecting Children During a Crisis training from Darkness to Light is available online, free of charge, and in English and Spanish.
